Podcasting 101: Idea to Pilot to Prime Time - November 5th - 6:30pm-8pm

Podcasting has become one of the most exciting ways to share stories, ideas, and conversations with the world—but getting started can feel overwhelming. This interactive, beginner-friendly workshop will walk you through every step of the process, from shaping your concept to getting your first episodes online.
We’ll start with the big picture: defining your idea, finding your audience, and deciding what makes your show stand out. You’ll explore how to structure an episode, the pros and cons of different show lengths, and the “Nesmith Hat” theory of why personality matters.
Next, you’ll dive into the nuts and bolts of recording. Learn what gear you actually need (hint: it’s not as much as you think), how to use your microphone properly, and the basics of recording and editing for clarity and professionalism. You’ll even hear a live demonstration of interview technique.
From there, we’ll cover hosting skills, pre-production prep, and strategies for keeping your interviews engaging. You’ll also get tips on music, publishing platforms, and how to promote your podcast once it’s live.
Throughout the workshop, you’ll hear real podcast snippets, ask questions, and take home a packet of resources—including gear checklists, a sample production sheet, and a cheat sheet of podcasting pointers.
The workshop is led by Lou Carlozo, a career journalist and Pulitzer Prize finalist who brings decades of media experience to the mic. Lou is the creator and host of Bankadelic, a financial services podcast with more than 45,000 listens and three sponsors. His mix of professional insight and real-world podcasting know-how will give you the foundation you need to launch your own podcast with confidence.
Also appearing will be Mark Caro, creator-host of the popular Caropop podcast. A relentlessly curious journalist and on-stage interviewer, Mark loves digging into the creative process with artists and drawing out surprising stories that illuminate the work that has become part of our lives.
